Rediscovering Joy and Purpose

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

June 23rd - August 13th

As the summer sun rises over the Mediterranean, a unique and life-changing journey begins for a group of teens and young adults who arrive at the Free Spirit Experience summer program. Set in the heart of nature - whether in a peaceful kibbutz in northern Israel - this isn’t your typical summer camp. It’s a therapeutic, adventurous, and empowering experience for young people navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, social disconnection, or transitional life phases.

Inside the Free Spirit Experience Summer Program

A Safe Haven for Growth

Free Spirit Experience was founded on the belief that healing happens through authentic connection, nature immersion, and community. Our summer program provides a structured yet flexible environment for young people aged 15–24 who may be struggling with traditional academic paths, emotional regulation, social dynamics, or simply the weight of growing up in a complex world.

For many participants, this summer marks a turning point: a rare chance to step away from daily pressures and engage in deep self-exploration, while forming real friendships and building life skills that last well beyond the season.

What Makes the Program Unique?

1. Therapeutic Foundation, Non-Clinical Approach

Free Spirit’s professional team - including licensed therapists, counselors, and experienced mentors - integrates evidence-based therapeutic practices into daily life, without making the experience feel like therapy. Sessions are individualized and group-oriented, and include:

  • Emotional regulation and mindfulness training

  • Art, movement, and nature-based therapy

  • Trauma-informed care and personal coaching

  • Optional one-on-one therapy or family involvement

This blend allows for both therapeutic breakthroughs and everyday fun, without the stigma or resistance some youth may feel in more clinical settings.

2. Adventurous Spirit

From hiking and sailing to volunteering in local communities, Free Spirit taps into the natural human need for challenge, adventure, and purpose. Whether it’s climbing ancient trails to watch the sunrise or working on a kibbutz's fisheries project, each activity is a chance to reconnect with one’s body, confidence, and values.

Participants often say they “remember how to feel alive” through:

  • Wilderness excursions and nature immersion

  • Sailing trips across the Mediterranean

  • Collaborative projects and leadership training

  • Community service and sustainable living experiences

3. Personalized, Rolling Admission

The summer program offers multiple entry points, allowing participants to join when they’re ready. This flexible model acknowledges that every individual’s timing for change is different. Some stay for a few weeks, while others continue into Free Spirit’s longer-term gap year or transition programs.

4. Family Integration

Toward the final weeks of the summer, families are invited to take part in a Family Session - a powerful opportunity to reconnect, learn communication tools, and understand their child's emotional journey. The experience often catalyzes meaningful shifts within the entire family system.

Who Is It For?

The program is ideal for:

  • Teens and young adults in emotional or behavioral transition

  • Youth recovering from burnout, academic stress, or loss of direction

  • Those seeking a “reset” before college, military service, or adulthood

  • Young people who feel out of place in conventional environments

  • Individuals seeking community, healing, and meaning

Many participants are neurodivergent or have faced trauma, while others are simply looking for a deeper, more grounded summer experience. What unites them is a desire to grow, even if they’re not sure how yet.

Impact That Lasts

Each summer, we witness extraordinary transformations. Participants leave with more than memories - they return home with:

  • Greater emotional resilience

  • A stronger sense of self-worth

  • Improved social and communication skills

  • Clarity on next steps in life

  • Lifelong friendships and support systems

Parents frequently report noticeable changes: their children are calmer, more connected, and more willing to take responsibility for their lives.

A Global Community with a Local Heart

Though rooted in Israel and Cyprus, Free Spirit Experience welcomes participants from around the world. Our staff speaks multiple languages, and the program accommodates diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Participants live together in shared spaces that foster community, trust, and inclusion.
